“I did not see any lady except Juvriah (ra), who became a source of blessing for her tribesmen because hundreds of her tribesmen were liberated from the slavery by her action”.

Juvriah bint Harith (ra), born in a Jewish chieftain’s home

Islam had begun to spread rapidly and a major portion of the Arabian Peninsula was under the influence of Islam by the year 5th after Hijrah.

Al-Madinah had by now become the center of a stable and rapidly expanding Islamic state.

Banu Mustalaq, enemies of the Muslims, who planned to attack Madinah.

Juvriah bint Harith (ra), a beautiful and wealthy lady

The chieftain of this tribe was Harith bin Abi Dharar, an arrogant man who had a lot of wealth and power. He had a beautiful daughter, Juvriah (ra), who had been born just before the advent of Islam. The Prophet (saw) marches to fight a battle with the Banu Mustalaq

The Muslim forces were alerted when they confirmed news, of the Banu Mustalaq preparing for war with them .An army of seven hundred Muslim forces was ready to leave, under the General, the Prophet (saw), himself ,Aishah (ra), accompanied him on this march
The Muslim forces reached Al-Marisa, a strategic point for the tribe of Banu Mustalaq and a source of water for them .The Prophet (saw), sent a message to the Banu Mustalaq to accept Islam, but they began the war instead .The Prophet (saw), ordered his troops to launch a united attack on the enemy and soon they were defeated

Juveriah bint Harith (ra), is freed and marriage to the Prophet (saw)

Juveriah (ra), was not only beautiful, graceful, elegant and eloquent but also one who was brought up in one of the foremost families of the time.
At the first opportunity she went to the Prophet (saw), and pleaded her case with him.
The Prophet (saw), was moved by her sorrowful plea and asked her if she would like to live as a free woman and a part of his household i.e. if he paid her ransom .She (ra), was moved deeply by this unexpected elevation in her status, and was more than happy to accept his (ra), offer
She was freed, and after accepting Islam she married Prophet Muhammad (saw).

Al-Madinah and falling into her lap
She did not like to talk about it to anyone, but when they were conquered and
she was made a prisoner she hoped that her dream would be realized
When the Prophet (saw), freed her and subsequently married her, he (ra), also changed her name from Barah to Juveriah, then she was a girl of twenty (Imam Thahabi)
Aishah (ra), swa Juveriah (ra), and said that she was as beautiful as a fairy

The Prophet (saw), teaches Juveriah (ra), some beautiful sentences

Juveriah (ra), said, the Prophet (saw) told her that after leaving her in the morning he recited the above four sentences three times each and these earned him more reward from Allah than her whole morning’s prayers

The dua’a the Prophet (saw) thought Juveriah (ra)

‘How perfect Allaah is and I praise Him by the number of His creation and His pleasure, and by the weight of His throne, and the ink of His words.’ (three times)

Hafsah (ra), confides in Aishah (ra), and Allah (swt), exposed her.

It was around the same time that the Prophet (saw), confided a secret matter to Hafsah (ra) and warned her not to speak to anyone about it
Hafsah (ra), told Aisha (ra), about it and Allah (swt), exposed her and revealed it in Surah At-Tahreem (66:3)

“And when the Prophet (saw) disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wife, then she told it. And Allah (swt) made it known to him; he informed part thereof and left a part. Then when he told her thereof, she said, “Who told you this?” He said: “The All-Knower, The All Aware has told me” (66:3)

The Prophet (saw),boycotted his wives for 29 Days!!!

The granaries at Al Madina were full and all the riches were reaching the center from different regions .

Most of the Mothers of the believers had been brought up in the lap of luxury

When Umar Farooq (ra ), heard of this, he was very upset and told his daughter to ask him and not to make demands from the Prophet (saw).

He also advised the Mother of the Believers not to make demands
It was at this time that the Prophet (saw) boycotted his wives and went into seclusion and moved into an upper room adjacent to Aishah’s (ra), apartment.

Hafsah’s (ra), silent courage and her patient prayer and her study of the Qur’an radiated her face with a spiritual beauty and innocence,
Not to mention a sadness and harsh loneliness that had become a part of her life.
After deep thought, Umar( ra), decided to approach Uthman bin Affan (ra), with the proposal, however Uthman bin Affan (ra), declined.

Then he went to Abu Bakr As-Siddique (ra), and offered him his daughter in marriage, he too lowered his gaze and did not answer him .

Umar Farooq (ra), then he went to the Prophet (saw) with his grievance and the Prophet (saw) smiling answered,

Umar Farooq’s (ra), Advice to His Daughter

The Prophet’s (saw) prediction was proved right.

Often she would discuss with the Prophet (saw), issues about the Shari’ah.

Hafsah’s (ra ), confidence leads her to trouble

Umm Mubashir (ra), relates, that she and Hafsah (ra), and the Prophet (saw) were sitting and chatting together
He said, “All the people who had given the pledge of Allegiance at Hudaybiyyah under the tree would go to Paradise.
Hafsah (ra), asked, “how is that possible”
The Prophet (saw), got annoyed, but Hafsah (ra), did not give up and quoted an ayah from Surah Maryam (19:71)

“And every one of you will come within sight of it: this is, with your Sustainer, a decree that must be fulfilled”.
Ctd….
In reply, (saw), he quoted the very next ayah from the same Surah Al Maryam 19:72

“Then we shall save those who used to fear Allah (swt ), and were dutiful to Him. And, we shall leave the wrongdoers therein, (hellfire) to their knees”

Umar Farooq (ra), confronts his Daughter

This news of Hafsah (ra) disputing with the Prophet (saw) spread in Al Madinah
When Umar Farooq heards about it, he reprimanded his daughter who replied “Aishah (ra) also spoke in the same manner the Prophet (saw).

Her father again, cautioned her not to compete with Aishah (ra) and to maintain a certain decorum or else she would get into trouble.

Khanees bin Hazafah, Umar Farooq, and the maternal and paternal uncles of Hafsah (ra), and her cousin were all a part of this courageous band.

He was seriously wounded but most of the leaders of the disbelievers were killed, and Islam triumph.

It is one of the greatest battles fought in history where a handful of unarmed and out-numbered men routed a powerful and well equipped army.

The Prophet (saw), stayed at Badr for three days, while the injured were attended to; then he (saw), lead the victorious and jubilant forces back to Al-Madina.

These words of Allah (swt), promising victory inspired Hafsah (ra), and she nursed her husband back to health, however his wound was still sore and he succumbed to them.
Surah Al-Anfal 8:10

“Allah (swt) has made it only as glad tidings, as that your hearts be at rest therewith. And there is no victory except from Allah (swt). Verily, Allah(swt) is All-Mighty, All-Wise”

Khanees bin Hazafah (ra), passes away

A few days later Khanees (ra), succumbed to his injuries and joined the ranks of those who are blessed with eternal life.
The Prophet (saw), arranged for him to be buried in “Jannatul Baqi” next to the uncle of Hafsah (ra),

He (saw), personally led the funeral prayer
